Some companies build features. Others shift behavior.

Last week, Flourish Fi (a Telos Labs company) was recognized by Fintech Américas for driving financial resiliency across Latin America. The award is exciting, but what matters the most is why they won.

Because this is a lot more than building a valuable fintech infrastructure layer. It is about changing how people interact with money.

From Access to Resilience

Latin America has made massive strides in financial inclusion. Millions of people now have bank accounts, digital wallets, and access to credit. But access alone is not enough.

A growing middle class across the region remains financially fragile, often just one shock away from falling back into vulnerability.

The next chapter of fintech isn’t about onboarding users. It’s about helping them build resilience:

  • Saving consistently
  • Paying bills on time
  • Using credit responsibly
  • Building habits that compound over time

This is the problem Flourish Fi set out to solve. And the recognition came from a collaboration with Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and PicPay (one of the largest Brazilian digital banks, listed in the NASDAQ).

Turning Banking Into Behavior Change

Flourish Fi’s core insight is simple, and powerful: Financial health is not a knowledge problem. It is an opportunity to drive positive behavior.

Instead of dashboards and static education, Flourish embeds behavioral science + gamification directly into financial products.

  • Pay your bill on time → unlock rewards
  • Build savings → trigger incentives
  • Complete missions → increase credit limits

These are not gimmicks. They are systems designed to create repeatable, positive financial actions. And academic research shows that they work:

  • +32% increase in deposits
  • +26% increase in bill payments
  • 2x app engagement across partner institutions

What used to be a transactional relationship with a bank becomes something closer to a habit loop.

The PicPay Intervention: Where It Becomes Real

The partnership with PicPay, Mastercard, and Flourish Fi is a clear example of this model in action. Together, they built a gamified credit journey:

  • Users complete missions like paying their credit card bill in full
  • Progress unlocks higher credit limits
  • Financial Knowledge embedded into the user experience, not separate from it

The goal is not just usage. It is understanding and behavior formation.

As a PicPay credit card executive put it, the mission is to help users “achieve small milestones” and become more aware of how they manage credit.

And importantly, the behavior sticks even after incentives are removed. That’s when you know this is not engagement theater. It is a real product impact.

Financial Resiliency as a Product System

At Telos Labs, we often talk about AI-native systems. But Flourish shows something deeper: Behavior-native system and product.

Their platform combines:

  • Behavioral science → to design the right nudges
  • Data intelligence → to personalize journeys
  • Gamification → to drive engagement
  • Financial infrastructure → to execute in real contexts

The result is not a feature. It’s a system that shapes outcomes. And it extends beyond consumers.

Through Mastercard Strive, Flourish has supported micro-entrepreneurs – a critical segment where:

  • 77% have no formal financial training
  • Many don’t track income or expenses consistently

Helping this segment build habits isn’t just good UX. It’s economic infrastructure.

Why This Win Matters

Awards often recognize scale. This one recognizes direction. Flourish Fi represents a shift in fintech:

Products → outcomes
Access → resilience
Transactions → behavior

And most importantly:

From building tools → to building systems that actually change how people live

What We Take From This at Telos Labs

This is exactly the type of work we believe in. Not AI for the sake of AI. Not fintech for the sake of features. We seek to build product and systems that drive real-world outcomes:

  • Better decisions
  • Stronger habits
  • More resilient lives

Flourish Fi is proof that when you combine product thinking, behavioral science, and the right technology, you don’t just ship software. You change trajectories. Congrats to Pedro Moura (Telos Labs Operating Partner focused on our Fintech portfolio) and the Flourish team. Well deserved.
