Exponent is a B2B fintech company that provides company credit cards that generate cash back to employees of other businesses. These are not personal cards, they’re built specifically for business purchases such as dining, supplies, inspections, cleaning, and equipment.
The app is effective in tracking spends, and has a QuickBook integration that helps to keep track of tickets and transactions. The company’s mission is to simplify how businesses manage operational expenses through smart, easy-to-use financial tools, with a fully mobile-first experience.
Designing a mobile-first product that mirrored competitor workflows while improving UX patterns without breaking user expectations.

Our collaboration with Exponent Spend Management resulted in a sleek, intuitive mobile experience that empowered restaurant owners and operators to take control of their spending, without friction or confusion.
The redesigned app helped Exponent:
The outcome: a product that feels effortless to use, yet powerful in function, turning complex spend management into a simple, daily habit for business owners.
We kicked off with a Design Sprint to align around the core user needs of restaurant owners and identify the most valuable use cases for a mobile-first spend app. From there, we built an MVP/Proof of Concept that validated key flows, such as spend tracking, receipt matching, and analytics, through rapid prototyping and real user feedback.
To ensure accessibility and scalability, we adopted a Web-Enabled Mobile approach, allowing Exponent Spend Management to deliver a responsive, app-like experience without sacrificing speed or usability.
Finally, we introduced AI enablement as a foundation for future features like automatic categorization and spend insights, helping Exponent evolve toward smarter, more proactive financial management.
