Adapting a contracting platform to complex organizations
For founders and product leaders expanding into enterprise accounts, organizational requirements become product requirements. Telos helped SimpleDocs develop workspaces, identity integration, permissions, and regional deployment support across its web and Word experiences.
The challenge
Support different teams without losing the boundaries between them.
An organization may need separate working areas for departments, regions, or business units. It may rely on an existing identity provider and require data to reside in a particular region. Access to a repository does not always mean access to every document should work the same way.
These requirements affect the full product: sign-in, navigation, records, integrations, background processing, and the Word add-in.
The work
Add workspaces to the application model.
Workspaces let companies organize supported records and users into separate working contexts. The implementation connects workspace membership with routing and access checks throughout the application.
Integrate organizational identity.
SSO connects authentication with company and domain configuration. Login flows determine the appropriate route, including workspace and regional context. The Word add-in has corresponding authentication behavior for its embedded environment.
Develop regional deployment support.
The platform supports separate regional databases and routes users to the appropriate host during sign-in. User and company creation include regional validation.
Make repository access more specific.
Repository, folder, and document permissions provide different levels at which access can be granted. These controls work alongside the application's company and workspace boundaries.
What the product supports
- Company workspaces and membership-based access.
- SSO and domain-aware authentication routing.
- Regional databases and login routing for US/EU deployments.
- Repository, folder, and document permissions.
- Access handling across web and Word entry points.
The result
Organizational requirements became part of the platform.
SimpleDocs gained application-level support for more varied team structures, identity arrangements, and regional deployments. The work extends beyond a settings screen into the records and entry points those settings govern.
