Bringing member context into conversational financial guidance

Financial questions rarely arrive with all the necessary context. We helped SaverLife design and launch an AI financial navigator that connects conversation with relevant member information and resources inside the product.

The challenge

Make the conversation useful for the person asking the question

A question about saving, debt, or spending can mean different things depending on someone’s goals and circumstances. The experience needed to help members express what mattered to them and connect the response with a practical next step.

The product also needed to address how financial context enters a conversation, which resources the assistant can present, and how the member controls supported personalization settings.

The work

Explore the experience with members

The design work included prototyping and iteration informed by user feedback. It examined how members would interact with a financial assistant and what would make the experience useful and approachable. Related article: design sprints and the SaverLife assistant.

Connect the assistant with relevant context

The implementation can provide profile information, goals, activity context, and recent connected-account transactions where supported by availability and member settings. Prompt-building services assemble this information for the relevant conversation.

Make resources part of the interaction

Resource-building logic connects the assistant with SaverLife articles and other supported resources. The experience includes links and follow-up interactions that connect the conversation with the wider product.

Develop the conversation as a product capability

Session management, streamed responses, conversation history, feedback, and preferences support the experience around the model. Later work added specific debt and savings conversations and optional memory across conversations, controlled through rollout configuration and a member preference.

What the product supports

  • Conversational financial guidance within SaverLife.
  • Personalization using available profile, goal, and financial context.
  • Relevant resources connected to the conversation.
  • Conversation history, feedback, and supported personalization preferences.
  • Additional conversation flows for debt and savings topics.
  • Cross-conversation memory where enabled and allowed by the member’s setting.

The result

A financial navigator integrated into the member experience

The first version reached members, as described in Telos’s August 2025 launch coverage. Subsequent engineering extended the context and product behavior surrounding the conversation. Related article: SaverLife at the AI for Economic Opportunity Demo Day.

The work connects AI with a financial-wellness product: member context, resource discovery, conversation design, and the application capabilities that make the interaction usable over time.

Begin with the questions people bring, the context your product can responsibly provide, and the next actions an answer should support.
