Connecting contract documents to the terms that govern today
For business leaders managing contract operations, the answer may be spread across an agreement, an amendment, and a renewal. Telos helped SimpleDocs connect those records and track how related documents change the information a team relies on.
The challenge
Understand the agreement family, including what changed.
A base agreement can remain on file long after another document changes its expiration date or other terms. A statement of work may depend on a master agreement. A cancellation can affect how the team should treat an otherwise active record.
Extracting each file separately leaves those relationships unresolved. The product needed to connect the documents, identify relevant changes, and make those changes traceable.
The work
Represent relationships explicitly.
The application models amendments, renewals, cancellations, parent and child agreements, and other related documents. Links can come from workflows, manual input, the API, or AI-assisted detection. This extends the relationship model to imported contracts as well as agreements created in SimpleDocs.
Find candidates before evaluating the relationship.
The detection process uses document information and retrieval to identify plausible matches before evaluating the evidence. The system also preserves review decisions so rejected suggestions do not simply return as new work.
Connect the relationship to changing contract information.
Confirmed relationships can propose changes to supported metadata, including dates and governing terms. The product records the source of those changes and supports review where values need a decision. Related work handles inheritance of selected terms and renewal-date tracking.
What the product supports
- Linked agreement families and relationship views.
- AI-assisted detection alongside manual and workflow-created links.
- Review of proposed relationships and supported metadata changes.
- Traceable changes to selected dates and terms.
- Renewal alerts and support for configured automatic renewal periods.
The result
A connected view of the documents behind a contract relationship.
Teams can inspect how agreements relate and where updated information comes from. The repository can reflect supported changes introduced by related documents, with a record of the source and decisions involved.
This gives contract operations a foundation for reasoning about the agreement as it evolves over time.

Does the answer depend on several connected records?
You may need more than document extraction. The product also needs a model for relationships, changing values, and the decisions that should remain visible to people.
